Susan Hendricks, founder and director of Prep School Search, brings over three decades of experience in independent schools to her role as educational consultant for students and parents. Through her career as an independent school and college admissions director, she has developed a uniquely well-informed perspective on the admission process and has an established professional network within schools and educational associations.
Her experience as an educator gives her in-depth understanding of students’ individual abilities and of how and where they can be maximized. Susan has worked with hundreds of students, parents, and educators from around the U.S. and the world, and during her career she has guided a broad range of students to achieve an independent school education.
Susan's varied experience with families applying to independent schools gives her an outstanding background as an educational consultant.
As Director of Admission and Financial Aid at Taft School, Lawrence Academy, Miss Porter’s School, Franklin College Switzerland, and The Masters School, Susan gathered first-hand knowledge of these and numerous other educational institutions. She has specific knowledge of the admission process, from both the family’s and the school’s perspectives.
A teacher, advisor, and assistant head of school, Susan is experienced in all areas of school life, giving her expertise and insight into how each individual’s strengths and needs can be met in the school setting.
With personal experience of coed, all-boys’ and all-girls’ schools, as well as boarding schools and day schools, Susan has an informed perspective on the benefits of a great variety of school environments.
An active participant and leader in regional and national organizations, including The Association of Independent School Admissions Professionals (AISAP), New York Boarding Schools (NYBS), Educational Records Bureau (ERB), National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS), Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), and The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), Ms. Hendricks has an extensive national and international professional network.
Ms. Hendricks is a graduate of the Emma Willard School, and earned her B.A. at Columbia University in English Literature. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
